Third Quarter 2018 Newsletter
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support for the children of Haiti. We know without your support our mission would not be possible. Every day we are making a difference in the lives of the children of Haiti through the Word of God, education and nutrition. Our third quarter in 2018 was a blessing to our students and those in the community. Schools for Haiti hosted three mission teams over the summer. They were instrumental in helping us get off to a great start for our 13th school year. We would like to thank all our school sponsors, donors, short-term missionaries and prayer partners for their support.
Updates from Mission Teams
We had a great time hosting three mission teams this summer.
From July 23rd through the 30th we were blessed by a mission team from Celebration Church in Jacksonville. This was the first time Celebration Church has sent a mission team to work with Schools for Haiti. We are proud to say they will be sending a few more teams back to Haiti in 2019. This team worked hard to present students in four different schools with a message of God’s redeeming love and salvation through Jesus Christ. We witnessed many students give their lives to Christ. They also ministered to several families in the communities where our students live. One highlight from the trip was helping a family of 12 living in a small 400 square foot home. Several small children were sleeping on a rough concrete floor. The team was able to provide mattresses, linens and kitchen supplies for the family. Thank you Celebration Church and Pastor John Scott for putting together such an amazing team.
From August 6th through the 12th we hosted a very talented group of men lead by John Pollach from Harvest Church in Jasper, Texas. This team put new roofs on buildings at our Alyssa Marie and Lacey schools. This was the second year that they used their talents to install quality roofs on our schools. Our schools also provide dependable shelter for our children and their families during hurricanes and storms.
From August 25th through September 1st we hosted the fourth mission team sent by Grace Family Church in Tampa. This team worked hard to present an interactive teaching on the miracles of Jesus. They also spent time in our Haiti office packing thousands of school supplies for us to deliver to our teachers and students for the new school year. One memorable moment for this team occurred when they could no longer travel up the mountain road to visit the Kelly School. There is only one road to the Kelly School and it was washed away by heavy rains and mudslides. The team was determined not to give up and disappoint the kids. They quickly found donkeys to carry supplies and motorcycles to transport some of the team. The other brave souls hiked nearly a mile up the muddy road to the school. Thanks to Grace Family Church, Pastor Mike Ash and his wife LeAnne for sending such a devoted team.
Our 13th School Year Has Begun
Schools for Haiti is proud to report that we kicked off our 13th school year. September 3rd was the first day of school at all ten schools. We worked hard this summer to improve the quality of education and meals for our students. They have a school to be proud of with the resources and supplies they need to receive a life changing education.
9th Annual Schools for Haiti Auction and Gala
Our 9th Annual Fundraising Dinner on September 15 was a wonderful and fun evening. We raised a record amount of support for our students and building projects. We are sincerely grateful for all who attended especially our sponsors, supporters, donors and volunteers. This was a special night for us to personally thank and visit with the people who make Schools for Haiti possible.
