Quarterly Newsletter – April 2018

Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support for the children of Haiti. We know without your support our mission to make a difference in the lives of the children of Haiti through the Word of God, education and nutrition would not be possible. God has blessed Schools for Haiti in so many ways so far in 2018. We are now fully operational in our two new schools – Alyssa Marie Christian Academy and Rock School. Thank you again to our new school sponsors Jim Powers with TEN Institute and Matt and Cindy White.

We would like to announce a new team member who is leading our team of Directors in Haiti. Raphael Adelson joined the Schools for Haiti team in January as our Managing Director. Raphael grew up in Haiti but has been living in Florida for the last 25 years. He decided to move back to Haiti to serve the children and help create opportunities for them to have an education. This made him a great fit to partner with our mission. Raphael is a graduate of Milot Normal School in Haiti with a degree in Sciences of Education. He is a seasoned Florida Real Estate Agent with strong management and entrepreneurship skills. Raphael is also a former teacher, school principal, Constituante and Congressman in Haiti.

Update from Mission Teams

From January through March we have been blessed to host three teams. Our first team in January was a diverse group of Engineers, Builders, Architects, Business Owners and a professional video crew. This team was able to gather information and make critical assessments necessary for us to begin work on our Educational Vision Complex. Schools for Haiti was also blessed to have TEN Institute provide a video team to capture over 30 hours of footage from this trip. Most importantly, everyone on the trip was able to visit some our schools and bless the students by serving food, playing and praying with them.

The second team visited Haiti in mid-March. This team made an impact by collecting five suitcases filled with donations. The team was able to bless two local churches with various donations and a small orphanage with toys for the children. One of our school sponsors Jim
Powers brought his daughters Alyssa and Lacey on this trip. We were able to visit his sponsored school, Alyssa Marie Christian Academy, and a second school he is interested in sponsoring.

The third team visited the last week of March. This trip was designed around a unique mission called the Period Project. The period project was initiated by Bailie Schock and Iris Casey. Their heart was broken when they learned that an alarming number of girls drop out of school once their body begins its menstrual cycle. Bailie and Iris collected over 800 sanitary pads for the girls in our schools. They created kits for the girls which included 5 pads, 3 disposable trash bags and an information packet written in Creole and English. They also collected enough pads to leave with a female teacher in each school. We are thankful for their insight to this issue and their heart to develop a solution.

Update on Educational Vision Complex

Great news! We have broken ground on the Mission House and the laundry building. I had no idea the amount of effort that goes into building a Mission House. We are doing all construction of the buildings under Florida code. This is going to be a very important project that will make a massive impact on the community. We are providing an elementary and high school, a mission house with 14 double rooms, a children’s home, children’s infirmary and a community center with a culinary teaching kitchen. We are blessed to receive help on this project from Empad Architecture. They have donated all of the architectural consulting and plans. We thank Empad Architecture and all of the construction engineers and contractors who have donated their time and expertise. Schools for Haiti will be having an official ground breaking ceremony for the Phillip Elementary School (named in honor of our dear friend Phillip Elmeer) on April 30th. This complex will be self-sustaining and provide a higher level of education for the children in Haiti for many years to come. We need your help to complete this project. If you would like to donate towards any of the buildings in this complex, please contact us and we will send you a brochure with a description of needs.
